You made good sense. I've recently tipped my boyfriend into reading the Xanth series by Anthony, mostly because he and I are both terrible punsters and Anthony breaks your brain for puns in Xanth. I still find the novels entertaining, on about the same level as historical romance; things I never read for depth but for laughs. Granted, I never liked the sexism, and I laugh about it now with my boyfriend, but I don't think he's horrible.

I do understand much of the "used to like" syndrome. For me, it's similar to say, Anne McCaffrey. It's not that I don't like her now, it's just that I've grown into more sophisticated tastes, and the inconstancies and fallacies of her as a writer bug me now when they didn't used to. Enthusiastic interest, I feel, comes with the discovery or cherishing of a novel; I cherished the experience of the Pern series, but don't immerse these days. I cherished the experience of Xanth and Firefly; but re-reading isn't so much what I'd want to do. Anthony read best to me once through, when I was young enough to not care about the sexism.
