Well, Mazoku feed off negative emotions, and positive emotions make Xellos feel sick (thus why he avoids Amelia). You'd think that if he felt those emotions himself it wouldn't be all that fun for him.

...That's what I've always assumed though, and feel free to correct me if I'm missing something. :\

Positive feelings from others make him sick (unless he's acting when Amelia's making her speeches, which he totally would if he thought it'd be funny and make him appear less dangerous at the same time).

It's definitely canon that mazoku feed on negative feelings, but in "Slayers the movie" the main enemy Mazoku implies that he can feed on any human emotion. Though I wouldn't take it as canon, as I've yet to see it confirmed anywhere (why yes, I'm very anal about canon questions).

Presumably Mazoku are able to feel some positive emotions, as they're apparently loyal to their lords. Xelloss seems to have great respect for his lord too, not just fear. Gaav certainly cared for Valgaav, in his own way, and Valgaav for him.

Also, how Xelloss acted in the end of TRY shows that ghe cares abut the world itself, despite his race's ultimate goal for it. It's also heavily implied that he actually feel some sort of friendship for Lina and the gang.

I think the problem is that we haven't got much information on the Mazoku, so much of it is just guesswork. Because of that I wouldn't with certainty rule out the Mazoku/other pairing possibilities.
