Yeah, horror novels aren't really about that. Probably because different things are horrifying in prose fiction vs on screen? IDK. But there's plenty of gore in crime novels, serial killer fiction, some mysteries, some thrillers and action books.

Seconded. You're assuming the genre name means the same thing in both formats. It also doesn't help that horror movies aren't even necessarily gorefests, but can be creepy in other ways.
