i doubt you watch the show, or you wouldn't have forgotten all the men who are murdered in "artistic" ways. they're all pretty memorable.

nayrt - I don't watch the show. Are the men prime specimens of physical beauty who are shown naked and displayed for the female gaze?

There were two instances when Hannibal himself was almost assassinated. In one of scenes, where Hannibal was put in display in swimming-trunks only, there was not much reason for the would-be-killer to display his torso as well. But he did. And plenty of fangirls rejoiced.

da
I guess "displayed" is a word for it when you're organs are mostly outside your body. Yeah, that's most people's idea of sexy.

Sometimes, yes? But you know what they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder or something. But take a look at the Tree Man, if you want. Hope this link works...

Overall, I'd say there's way more fanservice with male characters than female. As for the murder, there's no real difference in the way they're displayed after they're killed, regarding gender? It's always grotesquely artistic, male or female.

None of the female victims have been treated like this save one in the pilot, and most of the fanservice on the show comes from the male characters.

There have only been two female victims who I guess could be considered sexy corpse types, and they were both killed by the same person and displayed in the same basic way (Cassie Boyle on the stag's head from the pilot and Marissa Schurr in the antler room in Potage/E3). Even then, the only "male gaze" aspect was that they were both naked/mostly naked (in Marissa's case); their murders were portrayed as being very disturbing, and both Will and Abigail had recurring nightmares about them. Hannibal is generally excellent about not sexing up death (although the scene with Elise Nichols from the pilot was... questionable imo).

they were naked, OK, but they were in no way sexy. I totally love sexy female corpses, or tragically beautiful female corpses (ophelia...), but those were just ... dead meat.
