I feel it changed quite a bit in the last 15 years or so - where do you hang out? Obviously, some things do remain. I remember reading H/C fic back in '97

If you look around online, you can find some scans of Futuria Fantasia, the fanzine that Ray Bradbury edited in the late 1930s.

Fandom NEVER changes. At all.

I feel like it's changed too much.

/hasn't handled the transition from LJ to Tumblr well

As someone who likes tumblr I can never do anything but agree with these kinds of statements because I'll probably always miss LJ. I miss communities. (Yes, I understand the irony of me saying this in a fandom community. They just aren't as popular as they once were.)

But I don't think everything is worse! Certainly it's easier to get a hold of the source material (in most cases) now, and easier to find fic, etc.

I'm with you there.

Nope, it got better. At least TV fandoms did, thanks to DVDs and streaming and downloads. There's a slightly higher chance of people actually watching stuff to make sure their fic is somewhat IC. Plus, woobie rape fics aren't quite as bad as they used to be. The old horrible trends have been replaced by new horrible trends, but something's definitely changed. Even if it's more A/B/O and wingfic.

Haha, yeah right.

I certainly feel the same *arguments* come round over and over. I just want to scream at people on Tumblr to just bloody google some fandom history, it's not that hard.

It seems to have changed to me over the last decade or so, but then I'm not sure how much of that is me moving further into fandom spaces over that course of time.

Some things certainly never seem to change, but I don't think I mind.

I really like the cat.

Some things chage, some stay the same.

I recently got back into an old fandom, and it's changed. A lot.

I left because of the drama and wank when the fandom was at its height and canon was still running.

Now canon has been over with for a few years, so people are a lot more mellow and accepting of weird/crazy ideas. I haven't even gotten a whiff of wank in the year+ since I came back.

It's much nicer this way.
