What they really should have done is said that they just don't ~~~understand!~~~ why people think the name is racist. And also, tried to drop something in there that would be offensive to Native Americans in addition to the Redskins name - something about how they've all died out so why do we care about them maybe? But they have to do it casually enough that it could believably be something they really think.

Also, they should have had a photo of RG3, instead of T&A sluts, and talked about how cute he is, and implied that part of the reason they're defending the Redskins name is because they love Griffin.

I mean, just as a general rule, coming out so combative and obviously anti-PC is just going to be blatant.

I don't know, saying 'I find nothing offensive about x' can work if there's more to it. Like if it's made clear that they're not part of the offended group, but they still expect to have some say in the matter because they don't find it offensive. Although that's less likely to produce actual responses, it may bring out more anger.
