Your first paragraph fits pretty well with what I'm going through. My friend has three kids, a husband she only sometimes likes, and those things (plus her issues with her mother, brother, etc) are about the only topics she's wanted to talk about for years now. These days we only text now and then and when we do, it's usually just to ask, "Hey, how you doing, how is the family?" It's disappointing but not new.

Yeah, that's basically it - but to make it worse she just sounds miserable, too. Like I could live with it if she was living her dream life and having less time for me. But that's clearly not the case.

Yea, same. I don't think in my friends case that she's making tons of terrible decisions, but...she isn't happy either, and when I'm not happy hearing about her not being happy just makes me feel worse, and on top of that we don't have much to say to each other that isn't basically a status update. That's life, though.
