Mostly it's my attempt to make sense of the canon hash and fuckery foisted on Kael since WC3. (And to actually provide a plausible character arc.)

Framing device is deranged Magister's Terrace Kael addressing "adventurers" as they fight their way through MgT to kill him; bulk of each chapter (other than the prologue) is flashback telling the story of Kael's life from the time he left Silvermoon to study in Dalaran to ... the state he is in when finally defeated.
