So? Is she claiming it's hers, or is she just using it? Because there's no good reason to re-record playing a video game when the footage already exists unless there are huge differences in gameplay (not actually the case for most games.) As long as she gives proper credit, who the hell cares what she uses?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't give credit, though.

Then that's a separate issue.

Plagerism is a huge fucking issue.

Let's Plays are not fucking plagiarism. The legality of Let's Plays are debatable in their own right. They certainly don't own the game footage.

I have yet to see any proof that she's using other people's let's play footage, btw.

I mean... she's showing the exact same game as the let's players, most of the time, cut scenes. So... they expected cut scenes to be different from one copy of the game to another?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
If that's the case, people are being extra ridiculous about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It actually is possible to have cut-scenes differ from game to game, particularly in games where you can customize your character.

But, as I haven't seen her videos, I can't say that this is the case.

AYRT

I might be wrong, because I haven't played all the games she's shown, but so far, all the cutscenes I've seen in her videos are from videos where you can't customize your character. Or where you don't see the character itself.

Um... even the article writer points out that most of those are cutscenes that are exactly the same every time you play the game. Which still doesn't prove without any doubt that she DIDN'T play those games.

The most objectionable thing there is the fanart thing, and a quick google search makes it clear that both fanartists have come to an agreement with her.

Except her knowledge of some of the games I know is minimal at best, which tells me she either didn't play them or she didn't even pay attention to them. At best, she had a bias going in and refused to acknowledge her initial thoughts may have been wrong, at worst she stole clips and didn't actually play the games themselves.

I can see where the confirmation bias problem comes from -although I'm pretty sure that most of the people who insist she is misrepresenting the games are actually missing the point of the series- and sure, we can argue about that.

But maybe my problem is that I don't see how we jump from 'confirmation bias' to 'she never played/bought the games and is a horrible con artist', much less to death threats and 'she's the end of gaming as we know it'.
