Hey, so I know you’re a troll, but…

I had been curious, so I asked, and everyone that I talked to (Navajo, Hopi, TO, and Chemehuevi) didn’t really care (not that they would presume to speak for everyone in their respective tribes, let alone everyone in every US tribe), granted, it was a pretty small sampling. After being forced onto reservations, having their names (and language and religion and culture and sometimes their children) taken from them, being given smallpox, being addicted to alcohol, having treaty after treaty violated, and having promised aid taken from them, I guess they aren’t all up in arms about a football team name.

I’m white and I find it offensive (because it’s about a stereotype and even if it wasn’t, it is literally about the color of people’s skin) and I think they should find another name, but that’s my opinion.

what exactly was the point of this comment? patting yourself on the back for being a good white, except that you're admitting that you don't want the name to be changed because it hurts anyone but just because you feel you ought to? do you want people to validate your feelings?

...Can you read? The anon above you said they DO think the name should be changed.

other than the fact that you clearly didn't read the comment, I think the point was...to contribute to the conversation? to share their own experiences? why does anyone ever comment after all?

ayrt

The point is to share something about this particular subject. I think a lot of people take the stance that the name should be changed because it's offensive to Native Americans. I'm saying it should be changed because it should be offensive to everyone, because it hurts everyone - stereotypes and racism hurt everyone, just not always in an obvious way. Also, what is wrong with thinking stereotypes and racism are wrong? (I do feel like both are wrong, not just feel like I ought to feel that way.)

same, kinda. I feel like we* should ask actual Native American people if it's offensive rather than just declaring it to be so

*by "we" I mean everyone involved, but especially all who are not Native American since, like with any major other issue, I basically just hear a bunch of white people talking about it

There have been active campaigns by multiple tribes to have the name changed. They've been a part of this since the beginning.

That's good to know. I haven't really been actively following it bc I'm not a sports person.
