I ... really don't feel like she's a representative of women on this issue? People uttered these criticisms before her, and in a much more nuanced and interesting way, and they'll continue to offer them.

I am pretty invested in the topic of sexism in gaming, and Sarkessian only ever pops up due to the reaction to her bringing the general gaming public into the discussion for a few days.

I'm sure she makes a few good points occasionally, but I'd be really surprised if the videos improved significantly over the old Feminist Frequency stuff, which was never really that glorious to begin with? I mean no amount of money you throw at her is going to improve the quality of the actual content she delivered, and I think people knew that. Considering that she planned out the videos topics in advance it was pretty clear she was going into the whole thing with a fairly pre-formed opinion.

She's fairly 101, as someone else said. Personally, when I find myself agreeing with her, it's mostly on stuff that has been discussed ad infinitum by female gamers, and she's only providing a regurgitated synopsis. Like... a very basic primer.

When I find myself disagreeing with her, I just chalk it to different opinions, and shrug it away. Since it's obvious no one is going to agree 100% of the time with everything a subjective critic says.

But then... I didn't donate to her kickstarter, because I didn't like her original videos that much. So... I really have no reason to complain about her use of the money. And to this day, I've never seen someone who WAS a baker complain about that. Just... haters claiming she's a conartist and that's why she should die in a fire or something (Which of course, doesn't help to the actual discussion of her videos content)

I don't think she's a representative of all women in gaming, but I think there are some people who aren't really tuned into feminism in gaming or gaming in general who do see her that way. :(
