Okay look, the moment you start to take a sitcom at face value you're bound to feel uncomfortable. Sitcoms function on the logic of saturday morning cartoons. It's like when people talk about the implications of "Home Alone". There might be formats of tv shows that would make your complaint valid, but sitcoms of all things...
