There are levels between disliking and not hanging out as friends, though. I mean, I don't know, you might be right. I just personally had coworkers I quite liked to talk to and interact with, just not enough to feel the need to hang out with outside of work, or build a friendship with. in fact, this would be the case for most my (ex)colleagues.

OP

True, but when both of them have no problem giving shout-outs in interviews and on Twitter to every single other actor on the show except each other, it seems a little too extreme for a simple "they just don't hang out much as friends" explanation.

Hey, it's entirely possible, just wanted to bring some nuance into things.

I've never actually thought about it, but it makes sense as it explains why they have absolutely no chemistry.

I felt that they were best as friends. Maybe the actors just having no connection helped me form that opinion, maybe not. But they're actors, and I don't know them, so I can't have an opinion on that.

Maybe the content of the secret influenced my thinking, but looking at that picture...there's something in her eyes that screams, "Get away from me".

I don't watch the show (my mom used to though, so I've seen bits and pieces of it) and although I follow Nathan on twitter, I don't actually follow him closely so I have no idea what their relationship is like IRL, but I can see why you would think that if they rarely mention each other or are rarely seen together doing press.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I thought that too! I know nothing about the show or the people, but from that image alone I would guess that that lady is super uncomfortable with that dude.

I assume the image was actually published somewhere as promotion for the show, which is baffling. They couldn't get a shot in which she didn't look like she was counting the seconds before she could get away?

I always thought they got along from what I've seen on the gag-reels, but I also don't keep any kinds of tabs on their personal lives either so I wouldn't really know.

I have no idea if they like each other or not, but tbh I'm actually kinda glad they don't hang out constantly. The Stanathan fans are creepy and obsessed, if the two even look at each other they're screaming how Stana and Nathan should totally leave their partners and hook up with each other. I'd imagine it would be way worse if the two spent more time with each other privately.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-20 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I find it fascinating that you care so much about whether they like each other or not. Why does it matter so much to you? From your replies above, you're apparently very invested in this idea that they can't stand each other. IDGI.

I think I saw this mentioned while scrolling, but I'm in a time crunch: I don't think they dislike each other, I jUst don't think their relationship hours beyond the set. I work with plenty of people who I like, but we don't do things outside the office. The Castle set is the office for Nathan and Stana.

I've always thought that the first (couple of) season(s) were the best--those episodes where he's being a total jackass, but thinks he's being charming and she's constantly shooting him down. They seemed more real to me. The idea that the actors might actually hate each other makes a lot of sense. Let's face it, Fillion is kind of a d-bag IRL.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Examples? Everything I've seen of Fillion makes him seem like a decent enough guy - though I don't follow him on Twitter or read/watch interviews or anything...

Yeah, I stopped watching after they got together, it was ridiculously bad.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I got the impression that they like each other fine in real life, but "Castle" is just another paycheck to Nathan [given how the focus has shifted from his character, I sometimes don't blame him] while Stana is more enthusiatic about characterization and the direction of the show. I can see how two different schools of thinking regarding the show would create a disconnect between the two on-screen.

Whatever the case, I do not regret giving up a few episodes into last season. I used to love this show (and I loved the 100th episode) but it floundered hard mid-S3.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The ending to the most recent season - I don't even know which, fifth or sixth - was laughable.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not dislike, but as others have said they probably just don't social outside of work. And I could see that with them. Obviously I don't know them personally, but I think twitter does give us all a rare glimpse at people's personalities when they're run by the actors themselves. When I look at both of them, they seem to be on 2 different pages. I enjoy following Nathan's because he's pretty interactive with his fans and makes funny comments. But I could see how it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I know people that don't really like his humour. Stana on the other hand, she's got some campaign going on hers with a bunch of new season interaction. Going beyond that, she seems to be more artistic and thoughtful. The 2 accounts honestly look like complete opposites, so I wouldn't be surprised if that translate to how they socialize. Liking each other well enough to work together, but maybe not the sort of people they'd want to be around with all the time.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I think you are right about this. You never see them hanging out together at all. I see more stuff of her with Seamus & John then anything else. I think it's because Nathan has gotten too big for his boots. He feels like the kind of guy who'd go round being all "Do you know who I am? I was in Firefly."

It could also be because one is a Casket supporter & the other is not. IDK, I watch the show but I don't follow the famdom.
