The thing I really miss about the old f!s was the larger and more diverse group of commenters. Now I can almost predict what fandoms the secrets are going be, and what the discussions are going to be about. The tight-knit feel is nice, but for the most part it's really predictable. Sometimes the secret posts feel the same every day.

I DESPISED the old LJ F!S community. It was utterly fucking disgusting and awful, full of shallowness and wank. I often could barely stand to read any of the comment threads at all. And the GC section? Forget about it. I don't miss ANYTHING about the old F!S. Not a single thing.

I do agree with the predictability of current F!S though. I think we need some new blood. Just not anything like the old F!S.

Yikes. I don't honestly remember it being that bad, aside from the few trolls. I don't even remember GC being that much of a thing back then.

DA

There was no GC. There weren't even threaded discussions. It was a free-for-all. (People tended to put the number of the secret(s) they were commenting on in the subject line, and the discussions developed from there.) IDK it seems like the opinions in this thread are very polarized, either hating the way things were, or hating the way things are. It was what it was, it is what it is. *shrug* No better, no worse, just different.

Tho I can recall when there were 100 secrets on one post! *waves cane*

Yeah, I miss that too. F!S has gotten kind of boring lately.

I love this place, but I don't even bother checking it half the time.

Yeah, it's pretty predictable these days. It seems like in the days of yore there was a lot more diversity in the fandoms. Also, at least half, usually more, of the secrets and discussions nowadays are focused around social justice issues. It's like Tumblr-lite.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I know. For a place that claims to hate the 'social justice warrior culture' of tumblr, half the secrets and GC discussions here are about SJWs or social justice issues. I respect social justice issues, but it's like the people here cannot get enough of it. It's tiring, and usually just leads into wank. I think you just hit the nail on the head why I find FS so tiresome and uninteresting these days.

Like, I wish this was the place to talk more about fandom, and less to argue about things like whether the Redskins should change their name or not. Meh.

da I feel like SJW discussions have seeped into every faucet of fandom and it's kind of exhausting. It's not that I never think about those things in my life, but I come to fandom and F!S to escape. Lately, like the past few years, it's been draining trying to converse without someone bringing up a SJ issue.

I wonder, were you around during any RaceFails? Discussions during those were like minefields of "I DON'T HAVE TO EDUCATE YOU, YOU RACIST MOUTH-BREATHER" alternating with "HDU PRESUME TO SAY THIS IS RACIST IF YOU'RE NOT [insert race here]." It's a smaller scale on all counts now, but F!S of the past has informed F!S of the present. Thankfully, this generally seems to mean that people are more aware of what's problematic and how to keep from totally swallowing their feet about it.
