Re: this is Vampire: the Masquerade: Bloodlines for those of you just tuning in

Assuming you're not the OP of this thread (you all look alike!)

In a word, yes.

In a few more words: It's pretty much Deus Ex with vampires. It's a first person RPG type thing where you wander around a couple different areas doing missions and advancing the story. Character generation and development generally follows the structure of the old World of Darkness setting. You get points to add to your stats as you complete missions. And so on. Basically it's Deus Ex with vampires.

It was one of the first games to use the Source Engine (it actually beat out Half-Life 2!) and has been diligently worked on by fans in the decade since, culminating in Wesp5's fanpatch which is several versions old now. There's also a "true" patch by a guy named Tessera -- avoid him and avoid his patch.

The game is ten years old, so if you're one of those people who have no idea what their PC is capable of, if you bought it in the last 5 years or so it'll probably run okay. It's fairly cheap on Steam and I think it's also on gog.com if that's more your kink.

No, I'm not OP.

Just wondering because I'm looking for a new game to play. I enjoyed Deus Ex so I will probably try it since I like old games. I think my computer will run it without problems, it's pretty new.

Thanks for the advice.

No problem! I think you'll like it, if you liked Deus Ex :)

(my advice for a first run is don't take Malkavian, they're insane and see the world VERY differently, and don't take Nosferatu because that also alters the game quite a bit. Any one of the others will do, though Toreador is probably closest to "normal human being" you can get.)

Okay, thanks about your help :)

Just wanted to say everything dethtoll has said is true, but also I think it's pretty atmospheric, and to never spend points on the humanity "skill" since it's fairly useless and won't go down too much unless you are just murdering civilians like crazy, plus you can get humanity for free by doing little quests and stuff.
