If a guy had shot at his female love interest while the only thing guarding her was a shield made out of some unknown and untested kind of metal, it wouldn't have been forgotten, it would have been seen as the kind of creepy and unprofessional act that it was and surely not forgotten or excused at all, though?

Likely as not.

Like I said up top, I'm not... fond of this scene, even with my reading of it. I may have conflicted emotions, but it's mostly over degree and not form. Too many things can go wrong with that. Honestly I'm unfond of the whole sequence through there, and they're the only sour notes in the film. I think it's less bad the way I took it than the way a lot of people here took it, but still.
