Yes, but would your partners agree? That's the issue. People lie to you. Particularly when they know you like them a lot.

If anything the more affectionate a person is, the less trustworthy they may be. You can't ever know if they love you, because they're just going to say it anyway.

Not trying to give you a complex, that's just how people are.

I've never had a relationship that wasn't an egalitarian one that was based on friendship first. I've had people tell me when I'm being overly clingy. I've told people when I need space/time away from them.

I've also never lied in a relationship. I'm more likely to lie to someone I'm only interested in having sex with, and then only on the basis of being "from out of town" so they won't try to contact me for a booty call when I'm busy with other things.

Man. This is making me really sad, because you sound so much like a friend of mine who just went through a terrible divorce (husband of six years cheated on her, told her that he never loved her, then left for the other woman).

Like...I don't wanna be presumptuous, but...it sounds like something like happened to you, and if it did, I'm really sorry about that.
