This is kind of awful, tbh. The people behind you wouldn't be inconvenienced all that much compared to allowing a person 5 seconds to turn into traffic ahead of you. The person waiting to turn, if everyone thought like you and the OP, would be waiting a ridiculous amount of time.

And when it's your turn to be the person who turns into traffic, wouldn't you want someone to wave you in?

I honestly don't feel like it's their obligation to let me in. It's a nice thing to do, like I said, but not a necessity. You may be slowing people down "only" 5 seconds (which can make the difference between catching/missing a light) but it's a LOT of people, if it's that trafficky.

Unless the lights in your area are horribly engineered, there will probably be time for people to turn right when the light cycle stops.
