See, I don't care about pairing or character bashing. Bash away! They aren't real. And I can totally understand not liking certain elements of a work.

But when you start complaining about PEOPLE in fandom -- real people -- then that's when I get pissed off.

Who the fuck cares if someone wants to write meta about why Hermione and Ron don't work and Harry and Hermione would be better? I fucking don't.

What annoys me is when people start tearing into other fans. As long as the fan isn't being a bigot, what does it matter what their opinion is? If they want to write a post about how boring they find Ron, who cares? We're already stuck with it onscreen…why can't we vent in a fandom space?

I understand defending yourself if someone calls you an idiot for liking Ron. Or wanting to write pro-Ron meta. But why complain about people in fandom and say how awful THEY (not fictional aspects of the work) are just because they don't agree with you?

nayrt

Because usually it's not because they don't agree with you. It's because of the mean-spiritedness and attitude they have while not agreeing with you.

Yeah, but calling a character a fucktard isn't hurting anyone. Does someone saying chocolate is disgusting keep you from enjoying it? I don't think that's true.

And I don't see the harm if someone wants to complain about having to eat chocolate if they're being forced to eat it to have other parts of the meal.

If they're saying "only fucktards eat chocolate," then that's one thing. But I do think there's a difference between one person saying "Urgh, chocolate is DISGUSTING." And someone else saying, "You're a whiny bitch for saying chocolate's disgusting."

To me, insulting a real person is always worse.

I don't know if I'm making sense here, but that's just my general sentiment.

Oh, yeah, that's stupid. I shipped Ron/Hermione but I had huge issues with my shipper friends who'd be all "lol let's troll H/Hr forums and fight with people!" No. I'm not going to do that. Because I'm an adult, and that's the sort of thing children do, not adults. Except adults in fandom, apparently. It scares me how many of the worst offenders were/are in their thirties and forties.
