This!! It makes me wonder if they can handle life and real life problems if they can't handle something that happened in a fanfic.

I do OK under pressure at work, but once I come home I barely have capacity left to deal with any disruptions at all - and that energy always manages to get used up on real life disruption like surprise bills from two years back etc. There's just ... not a whole lot left by the time I'm actually done with my must-dos of the day.

Because I know this about myself, I take some precautions before engaging with media most of the time - that means generally devouring the entirety of an author's body of work once I figure out I like what they write, and re-reading stuff I already know when I have a particularly rough day.
