To each their own, I just mean there's basically no way it's going to even approach canon, and I tend to like my ships with just a little more canon subtext than that one seems to have*.

*disclaimer: haven't read much Avengers comics, so other people might have a different interpretation here

Wasn't it canon in an alternate universe with female Toni? I vaguely recall some kerfuffle over that.

You mean the universe where Toni convinced Captain America to not stand up for people's civil liberties by marrying him instead, and therefore Registration got implemented in that universe?

Yeah, that's suuuuuuuch a great basis for shipping a pairing. A political marriage that puts a blatantly unethical person-tracking policy into place and where the girl manipulates the guy into giving up his principles with marriage, and the guy goes "yeah, well, IDC about the rights of mutants and superheroes, I prefer the love of this chick who supports this fascist bullshit over my principles and integrity."

I ship comicsverse!Steve/Tony like crazy, but I headdesk whenever fellow shippers squee over the fact that they got married in that universe because....no. Wow no.
