I'm actually okay with that, because TV dialogue cuts out a lot of the things we say in natural conversation. I think if they were saying "bye" every single time it would get really cluttered. They have a limited amount of time to get their whole story in, so every word has to contribute to the plot.

That's true, and fair, but it still bugs me irrationally! It's like they just drop out in the middle of the conversation.
