In all fairness, isn't the Doctor ancient by human standards in all versions of the show?

Yes, even the younger looking ones are ancient, in the 900 years old range above their companions.

He's admitting to being over 2000years old now. Still missing a few centuries though no matter how you slice it. He was 953 (his exact age was a plot point) in the third to last season of the classic show. Travelled for a few centuries, fought a time war and aged out an entire body doing so. Yeah, 2,000 is out by at least a millennia.

Uh, thank you! I don't like the Doctor with any companion because he is too old, not because he looks old. Them trying to tell us that there'll be no romance for the Doctor now that he's older looking is dumb, I mean, he's been old since 1963, duh.

To me it's kind of like dating your house pet. I mean, I know folks who write good enough fic that I'll read it and temporarily forget about the lifespan discrepancy, but it's inherently a depressing concept.

I don't mind age discrepancies if the younger person is still old enough to have maturity and some life experience. I can't ship him with any of the younger companions, though.

How much maturity and life experience can make up for 900+ years age difference, though?

I only mean that companions like Clara and particularly Rose seem like almost children. At least someone older has seen the world and can think things through and isn't going to be completely swept away by the romance of it all. The people I ship the Doctor with are all people who can argue with him if need be and who don't hero worship him in the same way most of the younger companions seem to.

Then again, most of the people I ship him with have seen space and been around and seen and done things. The only actual companion I ship him with is Donna, who is the one who argues with him the most and i think could handle a relationship with him.
