Old songs

Inspired by the last secret.

What are your favorite old songs? You can define "old" yourself, but don't mention one from like last decade or whatever.

Love that piece. Even though I'm not an Alton Towers fan like yourself :-p

All my favorite songs aside from video game music are older than I am. :P

If I define old as before I was born, I'd say "Where did our love go" by The Supremes (1964), "Have you ever seen the rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival (1971) and "I wanna be sedated" by The Ramones (1978). All used in Cold Case episodes which is probably a big part of why I like them.

I still like "Dust in the Wind," "Carry on, my Wayward Son," and "Point of No Return" a lot.

Here's one from the very cusp of what I consider "old."

Frank Sinatra - Blue Moon

Paint It Black - Rolling Stones

Five Foot Two - any artist, though I'm understandably more fond of older recordings

Someone To Watch Over Me - Ella Fitzgerald

Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo

Birdland - Manhattan Transfer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jmUdpcq07khttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jmUdpcq07k

Oh man, I have too many. Those are just a few.

Um, wow

[personal profile] feotakahari 2014-09-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I like Birdland, but I have never heard anything quite like it before. Wikipedia says it's "jazz fusion"?

That whole album is great honestly.

It's that special kind of 70's music that I can only assume results from liberal amounts of various illicit substances.

All of these are so great.

Also, Paint It Black >>>>>>>>>> all other angry I-hate-the-world-and-my-life-sucks songs ever.

I still love a lot of what falls under "glam rock" -- Bowie, T-Rex.

As for single songs, Cockney Rebel's "Sebastian" (which was in Velvet Goldmine).

I love Velvet Goldmine, I have both the DVD and the soundtrack album (signed by Eddie Izzard!)

If we're talking REALLY old, then "Loch Lomond", "The Girl I Left Behind Me", "The Minstrel Boy", "Auld Lang Syne", "The Female Highwayman", "Abide With Me", "Greensleeves", "Froggy Went A-Courting", "Danny Boy", "Arkansas Traveler", "Turkey in the Straw", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", and "O Canada" are all way up there. (I'm not Canadian, I just really like the Canadian anthem ;))

If we're talking "sometime from the 20th century" then unfortunately my list is way too long for me to remember. I, like, listen to classic hits stations on the radio daily going to and from work. <_<

At that rate, I like some old shape-note tunes like "On Jordan's Stormy Banks" and "Wondrous Love."
