LiveJournal - anyone still use it?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone here actually use LJ? I've been feeling nostalgic and missing my old LJ community, and thought about making a new account and making new friends, but figure it's probably pretty dead outside ONTD or somesuch.

I still do, but I'd say it's really hard to restart. Most of my old flist has left, and it's taken a while to meet a lot of people who are still active. It's also a different place - less artsy/nerd/fandom centric and more RL centric, although you still get artsy/nerd/fandom stuff here and there. So if you're trying to get into it for how it was in 2006 where there'd be 100 pages of fandom goodness if you hadn't checked LJ for a day and NaNoWriMo griping and all this other stuff, I'd set my sights elsewhere.

This. I'm ridiculously active on LJ - but the community and friend hunting to find other ridiculously active people on LJ is haaaaarrrdddd. It took YEARS to rebuild my Flist as the original folks just kept leaving.

BUT - if you're into regular life stuff (the other poster was right, fandom is not so much active there), it is worth it. You'll just have to look a little harder. I think there are still a couple of LJ Friending communities to get you started, if you search for them.

Your figures are correct. Have you missed all the secrets about people's flists jumping ship for tumblr?

I do, but I post rarely and only use it to keep up with people I've been keeping up with for years, some of whom don't have Facebook or Tumblr accounts.

It really isn't the place it once was, alas alack.

The kpop fandom omonatheydidnt is fairly active but not nearly as active for making friends as it once was.

I made some of the best friends through nbc_revolution, so really I think it's all about finding an active community and finding a dedicated fandom.

Yup. I still like the journal setup, and all my friends/communities I follow besides this one/landcoms are there.

I wouldn't say it is dead. It has been quieter. But there have been some friending memes going around, so I have a whole bunch of new friends. So while quite a few old ones have left, it still seems fairly active to me.

I think LJ is dead in that a lot of people who posted all the time have gone, and if you haven't added new people, yeah, it's dead. It's taken me a good while to really find likeminded LJers again, because most of the people I used to interact with have left.

I'd also say it's quieter in terms of what people post. There's less energy - it's more laid back.

Yeah, for downloads mostly. And if I get into a new canon, fix coms are still there to browse.

I never really fucked with fandom comms in a write fic kind of way, it's not a total loss for me just to hang around some very small doll comms, and ONTD.

I still check my friends list once a day, but sadly it doesn't move too fast anymore. I'll rarely post something to LJ nowadays, usually just a fic here and there when I get inspired to write. I don't really use it for journaling purposes anymore.

I mostly crosspost to it from DW. ~ I belong to a few comms (Yuletide and the Yamame Ayano one) that don't do much on DW.

I post maybe once a month, sometimes more. Mostly I just read my flist and The Question Club.

I recently got an LJ. I'm going to post fic to a comm that was updated somewhere 3 years ago. It's hella lonely out there, but I'm alright with that. I commented on a fic i enjoyed and the author replied, so there's hope. I'm mostly in it for the fic.

I do, most of my flist does, there are still comms and challengers and big bangs (and mini bangs and otp bangs) and whatnot going on in my fandom(s). So - take it as you will. A lot of people are over on DW, too, and either post there or xpost DW to LJ, so if you're looking to get an account, i'd go for one at DW as well as LJ.

I post only on DW and then xpost to LJ, and my entire LJ account is backed up on DW (it was easy), so if LJ does ever go 'away' entirely, everything's over at DW.
(And that was mostly because of all the crazy the Russians and Six Apart started, and fears of mass deletions and such. The *new* LJ overlords don't seem quite as horrifying.)

I have posted almost every day for the past six years, including a lot of fics, but it is not what it once was. I miss a lot of my friends.
