Okay, it was just the way you wrote your post that made me think you were bringing this up with all of your solutions to helping her out. But that's good if you haven't brought it up, especially if it's only been this morning.

I'm coming at this from a person who has had to cancel fun plans with friends because of unforeseen spending and living on a very tight budget, so I'm a bit biased on that regard. And while I can understand your disappointment at not going with your friend to this awesome event, I do still think you're being rather selfish in the face of a responsible decision your friend has made. Respect her decision, and while it's totally okay to feel upset, realize that this isn't about you and she's probably pretty bummed about missing out as well.

No, I promise, I haven't said anything about it, and when she noticed I was feeling down, I told her it was something else; I don't actually want her to feel bad about it.
