This. She's making a good decision.

Think about it this way, OP: What if you were the one paying for her college tuition? What decisions would you want her to make with YOUR money? Would you rather she spend that extra money towards college essentials -

or would you rather she go to the con and then come back and ask you for another 600 dollars?

I'd be concerned, mostly, given that the con doesn't actually cost $600.

And she wouldn't be paying out of her parent's money, it'd be money that we're saving up from our jobs. If my theoretical kid paid for what they were supposed to with the money I gave them, then went to a con that they had saved up money for, but then ended up with an emergency (not what happened here, but hypothetically) where they needed $600 after the fact, I'd understand, because they saved up their money for this thing, and the debt happened afterwards.

But that's not what happened here, so I'm confused about what you're saying?

I was just trying to get you to look at this from another perspective, mostly in that - she's likely not giving you the brush off, but is just spending her parents and HER money responsibly.

There may come a time in her life when she will have to choose between things like rent or food. If she is willing to able to start learning how to make those kinds of choices NOW, in situations that aren't as dire, she will be doing herself a great favor.

tl;dr: I don't think it's cuz she hates you. She's just being responsible. Be a good friend and support her being responsible.

But she has to spend extra $600 in her tuition.

That means she'll have $600 less to expend in other stuff (including cosplaying), because budgets are a thing, even if a big part of her expenses are being paid by her parents.

In cases like this (when there's an expected extra expense) it's better to cut expenses instead of going on like nothing changed, because if something else happens the maybe she'll end in debt and that's something that should be avoided as much as possible.
