UGH

My ten year is apparently in November.

I hated high school. I was very, very deeply unhappy. I have this reflexive horror whenever I see someone from high school. But the one guy out of only two high school people I still talk to, who is incredibly nice, is trying to get me to go.

Here's the thing: I'm a doctoral candidate. I should be getting my phd in history the same semester I turn thirty. That is REALLY FUCKING IMPRESSIVE, it takes most people longer. But all anyone's going to hear is "Chard, that weird plain girl, is still in school!"

And yeah I know I shouldn't care what idiots think of me but I really just don't want to deal with it to begin with.

Just wanna say hope everything goes smoothly on your phd and congrats on getting that far so soon.

Don't say you're in school. Say you're getting a PhD. They won't connect the two, trust me.

Also, ego boost. I'm as serious as the plague when I say I feel really good about my life choices after seeing what some of those people did to themselves.

Congrats on the PhD. That's quite awesome!

Why wouldn't anyone connect getting a PhD with being in school?

Because people are stupid. I'm not joking. Some of the people I met didn't understand the different levels of government: federal, state, and local. I have an easier time understanding lolcat memes than I do their facebook posts. They haven't read a book in ten years and they didn't read much before then. PhD=school is not a connection these people will make.

Those that do make the connection will be smart enough to realize that getting a PhD is a big deal and will congratulate Chard on such an awesome thing.

Thanks for thr advice! I suspect thr people who dont get it wouldn't be impressed.

Thing is I really don't care about impressing people, just don't want to be mocked you know?

That will always be, it's for you to move by.

Dude, I totally get it. One of the reasons I've never gone to one of mine is because I didn't want to go until I had finished my degree (and it took me longer than you to finish mine!). Now that I've finished, I'm toying with the idea, but IDK. My twenty will be here in a few years.

Wow, you're getting a PhD that young? Well done!
