tags on tumblr: how do they actually work?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 01:08 am (UTC)(link)what's the deal? Do you have to be popular to show up in a search? and does tagging even matter? if I mention a tag in a post but don't actually tag it, does that show up in a search?
Re: tags on tumblr: how do they actually work?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 01:13 am (UTC)(link)2) The search is kind of random. Usually it's only the more popular posts that show up first. If you're wanting to check the tags, make sure you're looking under www.tumblr.com/tagged/thethingyouvetagged.
As for the other stuff, I'm not sure. And sometimes Tumblr just screws things up, especially if they're down or about to go down.

Allso guy below me, to search chronologically, use http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/yourtag
Re: tags on tumblr: how do they actually work?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 01:15 am (UTC)(link)Also, they might have changed this but for a long time only the first 5 tags showed up in the official tags. So if you went "#i #hate #this #guy #so much #This Guy" then it wouldn't show up in the #This Guy tag at all. Only on your own blog.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 03:26 am (UTC)(link)really this is just kind of making me hate tumblr all the more. the only reason I signed up is because that's where my fandom is, but what's even the point? am I just supposed to flail desperately until someone takes pity on me (I so don't want to do that)?
Re: tags on tumblr: how do they actually work?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-23 03:33 am (UTC)(link)I somehow managed to get two living people I don't know to follow me even though I don't have a single post, so it happens. Wish I could trade you.
