The most I ever did was roll my skirt inwards instead of outwards, so that the top edge looked normal and I could get away with wearing it short all day because the teachers assumed I'd hemmed it. I'm explaining this really badly, but basically all the girls rolled their skirts up at the waist to make them shorter, but most of them rolled it outwards, so if the teacher made them lift up their shirt they'd see the roll and make them unroll it, so they'd have to go around looking like they'd stepped out of Little House on the Prairie for the rest of the day.
