Depends on the campus. The fraternities on my campus are pretty low key for the most part and most of them require members to maintain a pretty high GPA and do a lot of charity work. Most of the sororities are the same way and they're actually surprisingly strict when it comes to discipline. I had a friend who was caught underage drinking at a party and she was kicked out her sorority within the week. From what I've heard, another nearby college has frats and sororities that are more in line with what you typically see on tv (a lot of wild, drunken parties and what-not). It just depends on the school.
