I don't understand, what do these stories have to do with each other?

Oh, I guess it doesn't say it in the article...but the lead in for the beer one was 'finally men have something to drink at starbucks!'

I just think it's strange that there would be men-flavored/scented laundry/coffee. Always seemed like a unisex thing to me

Oh, you're not trolling, apparently! Okay. I assumed you were trolling.

Uh, yeah. It's silly but that's demographics and marketing. It's the society we live in. I don't think it's an extensively patriarchal thing (when it's something limited like this, and not that fucking Pepsi 10 bullshit) - any market segment is going to have things targeted directly at them if companies think there's money in it. You could argue that there's an extent to which it's sexist that women generally are assumed to enjoy things for both sexes while men are only interested in things for men, but I don't think that's actually operative here. I mean, really, the most offensive thing about it is the assumption that women don't like to drink beer.

I figured, but it's still strange to me. Like those BiC pens for 'her' that came out a few years ago...Why would women need special pens? The joke reviewers were pretty funny, though.

Well, it's not about what one needs, is it, it's about what one can be made to want. If anyone's been in a Walgreens aisle full of pens and not known which to get and then seen that one says FOR HER on it and said "Oh, I'll just get that" they've done their job.

I don't think that's actually probably a successful example but that's the idea I guess.

Ha! Very true.

Yeah, I thought they would say something about DISGUSTING MEN RUINING THE WORLD and I was going to call them a sexist for implying that women don't drink beer, but they don't seem like they're actually trolling.
