That's disappointing! I would love to play a sweet BL game. (All the ones I've seen rec'd have been full of rape, murder, and various other unpleasant things. Which are definitely not...well, predictable, so there's that, but something not so grim would be nice, too.)

Most fluffy BL games are quite boring imo. And fandom in geneal seems to prefer stuff with a bit more meat to it, ya know? At least they ones that translate the stuff do. And those games tend to be a bit dark.

Well I don't object to murder or darkness in anything ever (I wouldn't enjoy 90% of the stuff I like if that was the case), but ngl, when I heard of BL games I thought, "Oh, I'll get to have a sweet romance with some cute boys. Yayy!" then...Dramatical Murder. Which I DID enjoy the (bits I experienced, anyway) story to, and some of the characters were pretty cool, but most of the routes are a bit too much for me. So...yea, maybe the sweet ones are a bit predictable and boring, but sometimes I want a break from all that angst and violence and turn to fluff. Maybe the translators just aren't into it. *sighhhhh*

If you want sweet/fluffy games where you romance guys, then you should probably try otome games. There's more of them translated and the most of them aren't dark.

OMG is Hatoful Boyfriend considered an example of this? (It's on the wiki page, haha.) Not exactly what I had in mind, but it seems like that one is quite different from the rest...

Okay, I'll research it at least!

Yep, it is. Here you go. http://www.englishotomegames.net/

Ooo, pretty. Thanks! I'll bookmark this.

Do you (or anyone else) have any good recs for otome games that have been translated, by any chance? I've long wanted to try the genre but I don't know where I should start.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-25 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Let me give you an an anti-recommendation: DO NOT PLAY STARRY SKY. It's the most boring, bland and shitty VN I've ever read.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-25 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
but at least it's safer and it doesn't have rape in it

(Anonymous) 2014-09-25 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing safe about that game. It almost made me want to kill myself. So fucking boring.

I'm on the translation team for a BL game, and yeah I think for me a 100% fluff game would get dull to do. I'd want there to be a bit more going on plot-wise (and reveals to be had, etc) for me to stick it out for that long; it's a ridiculous time commitment.

Well, I can't fault you for that. (Though it sounds like there isn't much in-between, that either the game is fluff or disturbing themes everywhere. Maybe eventually some BL games with more of a balance will be made.)

What you do is cool though! (Also, that icon is gorgeous.)

Well, I've been plugging this one as 30% fluff and 70% grimness, so maybe it's more a case that they already have been made (ages ago) but people don't care without the shiny new (Nitro Citral) graphics. xD

And thank you! :) It's a lot of hard work, so definitely a labour of love. (And ty again! I love Sylvia Ji's artwork, gorgeous stuff.)

Which game are you referring to? (The one in the secret?) I'll google it, anyway.

(Ooo, I thought the art looked familiar! I have seen some of her stuff before. Wow.)

Omg no, I'm not on the team for that thing. D= No offence to the people who are, but I would never even want to play it, never mind translate it. Not my kind of thing at all! Also I don't think anyone could argue that that's even 30% fluff. xD

Nah I'm on the team for the Sukisyo games (www.joat.moonfish.com), they're outwardly very fluffy but have some seriously dark themes in there, which is a great balance for me. :)

(Yeah all of her stuff is amazing. :) )

I read the wiki for the Sukisyo games and they sound pretty interesting! I'll have to do a little more googling but I'd like to give them a try. Thanks for mentioning them!

Ah no worries, I hope you enjoy them if you do try them! If there's anything in particular you want to know, just let me know. :)
