not 100% sure (haven't read the manga) but it seems like AOT is set in Europe, and I think Japanese people typically assume nearly everyone in Europe is white. The only time I can think of that a show didn't do that is when Durarara!! had a big black guy from Russia, and it kinda felt like that he was supposed to be "weird."

Simon was the man. Him punching out Izaya is one of the most satisfying scenes in an anime I've ever seen.

I wanted to clap during that whole scene. Bless Simon.

Tiger & Bunny has a really good handle on diversity, as anime goes.

Yeah, Tiger and Bunny was AWESOME. It's like they actually sat down and thought "Okay, if there was a city of superheroes with the diversity of New York City, what would that actually look like?" and then they actually did it. They even had a gay black man who possibly is of a nonbinary gender (although they kinda stereotyped him, but...at least in the movie they tried to give him some character development...even if that character development was just gayngst).

I was kind of pleasantly surprised that gayngst even appeared in a popular anime, moreso that T&B went out of their way to tell you, "GAYNESS IS SO AMAZING I'M INVINCIBLE!". Even if it was a bit of the stereotypical kind you see done over and over again in western media, I can appreciate that.

I loved this. Anime set in pseudo-NYC where the cast is actually very ethnically diverse? Hell yes.
