A while back people pointed out that his name has turkish origins and for some reason they figured they needed to make him "look Turkish" in fanart and then it just kind of spiraled I guess (of course, a lot of Turkish people are fairly light skinned but whatever)

ngl, I love the German Turk head canon, so I'll take every depiction I can get.

Yes! I'm not even turkish myself, but many friends and acquaintances are (I even know someone named Eren.), and it just makes things more realistic seeing it this way. Because AOT *seems* to be set somewhere in/near Germany, or at least the remainder of the human space seems to have many german citizens, so some of them are bound to be of turkish origins.
