By 'permanent' I mostly meant death, though yes. Sometimes I sort of pretend that Memory never happened, because on top of it being Simon, it's also kind of a personal nightmare of mine. *shudders* I don't pretend for long, because it's an excellent book and you can't just ignore things of that magnitude, but ...

But he's not dead. That's the important part. He's not dead, and he came back with as much of a bounce as he could (with help), and he's still Simon. Heh.

(I kind of glommed onto Simon in Shards of Honor, actually, because of private judgements and being 'a little bit pregnant', but he's sort of my fictional type, so I wasn't particularly surprised. He's wonderful though. Always.)
