I really think this comes down to an issue of semantics. The things that the person you replied to are what makes a relationship romantic in my opinion. If you'd do those things with a friend and the only difference to you between friendship and romance is sex, then obviously you have a different definition. People just obviously see it completely differently and I don't think either side is going to change the other's mind.
