We've met Penny's Dad though -- he visited at least twice from what I can recall.

Also read somewhere we might be seeing Penny's Mom this coming season so we'll see how she compares to the other mothers.

First of all, Mary Cooper is awesome. Second, Raj's Mom could be worse; at least she was quick to support Raj at the possibility that he was gay. I wouldn't say Mrs. Wollowitz is the worst either. She's overprotective and annoying, but she's also supportive and loving. And trust me, if there's anything this show gets right, it's how a Jewish mother and her grown son interact. I have vivid memories of my Dad bringing me to see my late grandmother when I was a kid. Papa would come into her apartment hollering for "LizelehderMishergenner" (crazy Liza), while she scolded him about what he could be doing better. I think they actually got a kick out of fighting because it was never really serious. Papa was devastated when his mother died.

Wollowitz's dad ditched them, iirc, and Sheldon had some pretty bad memories of his father too. Also, Sheldon's mom is awesome.

Don't forget Leonard's Dad. He's alive but it just seems he's not really hands-on about his kids from what Leonard's revealed about his childhood and we've seen in episode. Not to mention he divorced from Leonard's Mom to marry someone else I think.
