Look, I deeply care about fandom. Fandom is my refuge from life. I spend way more time thinking about fandom than I would consider healthy.

BUT I also care about real life people. So yeah someone attacking even my favorite fandom doesn't make them worse than someone who actually supports genocide. Not the "kill all men"-philosophy that people think tumblr is promoting, but the about 6 million dead Jews and about 11 million other dead real life people type of genocide.

MTE

Neo-nazis literally want to murder people and some of them actually fucking do. Tumblr may have some annoying shit and terrible shit when it comes to SJWS, but they got fucking nothing on neo-nazis. I guess my point is, until they stop being keyboard warriors and actually start doing shit that neo-nazis do, I'm not that concerned abour them.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for being reasonable.

"Gosh, see, neo-nazis are totes ridic, it's impossible to take them seriously so who cares?" THERE ARE JEWISH HOMES, BUSINESSES AND SYNAGOGUES BEING FIREBOMBED IN FRANCE RIGHT FUCKING NOW YOU UNBELIEVABLE FUCKING IDIOTS

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But what, exactly, do you think can be accomplished by engaging with or refuting Neo-Nazis on Tumblr on going on, say, Stormfront or whatever and challenging them?

It'd be like banging your head against a brick wall.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The efficacy of engaging with neo-nazis is irrelevant to a conversation about whether SJWs are worse than neo-nazis (pro tip: they're not).

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think anyone is saying SJWs are worse than Neo-Nazis, though. I think they're trying to explain why people rant about SJWs more and hate on them more. At least, that was my point.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. But I can't exactly stop Neo-Nazis or educate against them. EVERYONE knows Nazis are bad. The only people who don't are Nazis.

But I can tell people that, "Hey, that post you just reblogged is wrong and terrible."

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Here, let me try an analogy to hopefully explain.

Neo-Nazis are literal piles of shit that are on the verge of exploding and could hurt people. The thing is, though, they generally stay in their own spaces and, until they explode, are easy to avoid. And because we literally can't do anything about them (freedom of speech in the US, at least, includes what a lot of European nations would consider hate speech), we just avoid them. No one's saying that they aren't giant steam piles of excrement. Just that, because we can't do anything about them, we avoid them. Unless we have evidence of an imminent attack, we're stuck with those piles of shit.

SJWs are like some asshole adding jalapeños into a cake you're trying to bake. As bad as a giant pile of potentially explosive shit? No, of course not, and no one would say so. But there's no way to AVOID this fucking asshole because he's in your house and keeps ruining something you're TRYING to enjoy (your fucking cake).

That's why SJWs get more hate.

When people on Tumblr are bothering me, I ignore them. And it happens rarely, because I hang out in circles that are generally cool. In real life, parts of my family had to leave their homes because of violence.

Your analogy just isn't very good.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
But... but the SJWs flood my inbox! It's so awful!

People dismissing neo-Nazis as "cute" or "everybody knows they're wrong" are awful, because that's exactly how neo-Nazis have been gaining power and influence recently.

Is that...a Cold Case icon?

Oh, and you made a great point, too.

It is, so glad you noticed. Cold Case is still my number 1 obsession but there's only a tiny, tiny fandom left.
So have a hug fellow Cold Case fan. :)
