Yeah, I think when you're surrounded by that stuff it people just get tired of it and get angry and dismissive instead because it's easier not to care and protect yourself from being constantly sympathetic because that will wear you out fast.

I've found it best just to research sj topics and political events at my own pace. I can't deal with tumblr's you have to believe x or you're a horrible person style of presentation of issues.
