Re: Ignore the fact it's Gawker it just got me thinking

Minor counterpoint (Copoint?)

I'm a dude.
When I was growing up (teens) I had two incidences of sexual harassment occur to me.
1. riding the metro coming back from a night out a lady grabbed my D and tried to get her hands down my pants. I was the one thrown off the metro and had to walk home through some fucking sketchy locations.
2. at work an older female colleague would usher me out back and forth on the admittedly narrow till lines, by placing her hand at the small of my back / stomach, then gradually lower to ass / cock. It became significantly less subtle. Literally No-one believed me. HR said I was just being silly.

I know precisely ZERO girls with comparable or worse cases.
Based on my anecdotal evidence alone, I would be inclined to say there is a molestation culture among middle-aged local women.

I dunno what I'm really getting at. I do know it's not the same as the rape culture, that women have do deal with, I promise I'm not trying to claim any victimhood or such, I suppose my point is that the perceived culture in the modern media has little bearing on the actions of predators. and you're fear of predators is only a partially useful technique in avoiding them.

You are not the only one anon. Here are some guys sharing their stories of being sexually assaulted by women.

i find it telling that both those links are from reddit

?? Is it that Reddit cares more about male victims of rape than the rest of the internet (especially Tumblr)?

reddit is not a woman-friendly place. if i wanted to find a place to make shit up about how evil bitches are and have a bunch of dude-bros side with me, it would be either reddit or 4chan.

There are places on reddit that aren't women-friendly. They are other places on it that are very women-friendly (there are even subreddits that are run by women and posted on mainly by women).

And it's clear you just decided to make assumptions, since those posts aren't "oh look at evil women are," they're just people sharing their experiences of being assaulted.

Really? Did you even read them? I assume not. Here is one of the top stories:

"my babysitter raped me at the age of 10. She was 16 years old by then, and decided to play with me. She wanted to play everything that involves touching and she would touch my penis occasionally.

I actually liked it, but when she told me to take off my pants I told her that I dont wanted to. So she slapped me and did it by herself. She took my already erect penis out and started sucking it, without me wanting it. It is horror, you cant do anything that will stop her in any way. I tried to kick her and pull her hair but she would slap and punch me again and suck me off.

I told my parents but they didnt believe me. They thought I wanted to get her fired and am making up this story. And after I showed them my bruises they told me that I should be more careful when playing games with her. Apparently she told my parents that I tripped several times while playing tag with her.

She did it several times after that again but I just let it happen, because there was nothing I could have done (except for getting beaten up by a 16 year old girl)"

And here are some of the replies:
"I just do not get parents that react that way"
"I was a 15 year old boy's sex toy when I was 7 and my parents didn't believe me, either. Stupid parents. Here's a hug if you want one."
"Damn. I don't understand how any sane 16 year old girl would ever want to do something like that to a boy of that age... It just baffles me.

Sorry you had to endure that, hope it didn't affect you in the long run, man."
"I'm so sorry that happened to you, that first time and the ones after were not your fault at all."

Wow. Look at all those dudesbros complaining about bitches. Some of them are even talking about sexual assaults by men.

You are EXACTLY the type of person who makes men fear reporting their sexual assaults. Instead of (you know) clicking a link, you assume.

And there are PLENTY of subreddits dedicated to women/ran by women/women friendly. Reddit is just like the internet. There are terrible spots, great spots, and everything in between.

i don't know what you're getting at either but:

"I do know it's not the same as the rape culture, that women have do deal with, I promise I'm not trying to claim any victimhood or such"

it sounds to me like that is exactly what you're trying to do.
Which is pretty gross imho

What he's getting at is that men can be assaulted, too, and people like you dismiss it.

No. Men can be assaulted, raped, and sexually abused. It makes them victims. Women have to put up with a rape culture, men have to put up with a culture that ignores and denies that they can be assaulted.

He's not the gross one here.

how is this helping

how will this advance the cause of rape victims, do enlighten me

how is making a survivor of sexual assault feel like crap about themselves helping anyone

why don't you shut the fuck up

I know precisely ZERO girls with comparable or worse cases.

That have told you about it, you mean. Those examples you gave us are awful, but unless every woman you know also knows about them, I doubt they'd be opening up to you, since you are a guy and sexual harassment isn't something guys always take seriously. As a woman, those sorts of things have come up in otherwise unrelated conversations with other women, because they/I felt comfortable talking about it.

I don't understand why everyone is being so shitty to you in this thread.

I'm sorry you went through that.

I'm a girl, had a a similar experience with a coworker of the same age as me. At the time I was too scared and insecure to say anything, so I don't know how management would have reacted.

But I can't imagine how awful it is to not have anyone believe you. That's just rubbing salt in the wound.

No form of sexual assault should ever be minimized. Doesn't matter who's involved. It's an awful thing to do to someone. It's like with bullying - the kids who did it probably think it's a good old laugh, but the kids who were bullied often remember it for years afterwards.
