Mourning my fandom

(Anonymous) 2014-09-29 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm about to give up on my fandom. I've stuck it out for four years, but I just can't take it any longer. The current writers are idiots who bang on about headcanons and refuse all interpretations of canon that aren't 'they're so in love!' and 'his canon girlfriend is such a bitch'!

I can't tell if it's always been like this in fandoms, or if I've changed. Has it always been like this, FS? Have I just moved on from fandom?

I guess "has it always been like this" would depend on what your fandom is.

AYRT

I meant in a more general way. Fandoms often share the same issues, they just seem to have gotten worse across the board but I can't tell if that's my POV or not.

NAYRT, but I'd say it seems to be getting worse IMO.

I know this will sound like Tumblr-bashing, BUT.

My fandom had a huge influx of Tumblrites, and it went in this direction within a matter of a few weeks. I go back every so often, to see if sanity has crept back in, but it hasn't.

I shouldn't extrapolate based on a sample of one, but it's soooo tempting to do so...

Yeah this has happened to three of my fandoms now. Why can't they stick to Tumblr?

If that last line is multiple choice, I'd say, "all of the above."

What's the fandom?

Here's a tip: don't read what writers say in their posts, just read their fic. You'll thank me later.
