Uh....no, I'd say the diametrical opposite is true. Do you really believe casual viewers who aren't huge HP fans would EVER bother to decide that Slytherins are all persecuted awesome good guys? No, they'd go in the exact opposite direction -- they'd have an even more shallowly black-and-white bad-guy view of them than fans would.
