I agree. A much better idea would be to have James's parents (or just mother) to be more recent arrivals, or descendants of male Potters who went overseas with the British Empire. There's certainly students of Afro-Caribbean and South Asian origin at Hogwarts, so there's definite Imperial demographic influence there. I wonder what the interaction between British wizards and wizards of colonised countries were/are?
