(Anonymous) 2014-10-01 07:28 am (UTC)(link)I'm not hurt by it, just irritated and FS is the place you express your fandom irritation when you can't do it publicly.
It bugs me because they aren't just treating it as headcanon. They are claiming that it's a valid reading of actualy canone because "personal interpretations" and throwing around "death of the author" with no understanding of what the concept actually means. And there are some who are trying to force it on fandom as a whole, refusing to receive or create anything other than poc Harry in fests, etc. It's just a huge display of stupidity and self-congratulations.
It's almost always white people who do this, btw, and there's this kind of smug, "I'm the greatest SJW ever" attitude that goes along with it that I find incredibly irritating.
I have nothing but respect for poc who race bend white casts in order to explore that. But they generally acknowledge that they what they've created is an AU and not a valid reading of canon.
