Jo? My brother thought Jo was a boy when I was reading it and he insisted it was weird the book was called 'Little Women' when one of them was a boy.

PErsonally, I still think Laurie should've been a girl. And She and Jo would've been very happy together. I was very disappointed when I realized he was a boy. I wouldn't have minded 'her' ending up with Amy either. But being a boy AND ending up with Amy put him straight in my 'I hate you' list.

(Now that I think of it, I gender-bent a lot of literary characters in my youth. I got all the way half through the Two Towers before realizing that Merry wasn't a girl hobbit and wasn't Pippin's wife)
