I'd seen this trend, but also with other popular pairings. Not one person I can see with Darcy, so never read those, can't judge on self-insert. Others said that she's similar to authors, but to me she has a very distinct character (studies politics but is an astronomic physics intern [that is what always interested me]? probably pretty smart but very simplistic about it? easy going but crass? something like that :P). Then again, I'm not similar thus I can't relate. Better to avoid those fics then OP.
