Introducing an adult cast beyond the parents - and as for the parents, Tamers is the only series to give them some personality and actual purpose, too (one could arguably mention Savers here, but Saiyuri is a raging stereotype, and Tohma's dad and Suguru aren't characters as much as they are plot points). And with the parents given more depth comes a much more three-dimentional look into the psyche of the kids than any of the other series has managed to pull.

Only series that doesn't cast the main trio as Brave Hero, Big Sister, and Bitchy Wangstball (or at least, not in quite that order). The secondary (Kenta, Kazu, Jeri, Ryo) are also far less stereotyped than they could have been.

Ugly problematizing of morals vs. personal gain, through Impmon - who notably is the only antagonist who sold his soul fully aware of what he was doing, rather than being brainwashed or tricked into it by the Big Bad Evil.

And talking about that, Tamers is the only series in which the ultimate enemy is the result of past mistakes on behalf of the good guys, and not some form of Evil Power that is Evil.

PERMANENT CHARACTER DEATH, GOOD GOD.

General realism: the classroom setting, the fact that they actually have to put some effort into keeping their Digimon hidden from the rest of the world; the fact that the Digimon are hunted and perceived as threats by the government (and no, DATS do not count).

The Digital World is gritty, dog-eats-dog place from the moment they land, rather than wheesugarhappyyay place it is introduced as in all the other series.

... I'm sure I'll remember more in the morning, but... well, that's some of it.

Wow, You sure bring new vision to the series... I like your plot points! and I have to agree on so many...
