I think I specifically said she completely had the right, just that I don't approve of it.

I don't recall asking anyone to agree with me.

Like I said to anon over there, "It's an odd code, and I'm not defending it. I don't take anything anyone on the internet says to me seriously (unless it's via instant message), and so I don't think much of my own actions.

But this isn't about me. This is about this girl saying to her boyfriend who clearly wanted to be with her that a videogame was more important than him.

I can understand her sentiment, but that is no way to treat a person obviously Not Okay with it."

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
See below for my response to that silly statement.

And you don't have to ask anyone to agree with you to get opinions on the internet. The same thing that allows you to be more rude here makes people more willing to tell you their own opinions. Though frankly, if I had seen you in person and heard you say this I would have responded.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt I would have said this in person unless I knew you very well.

And again, I don't see where I said people weren't allowed to disagree with me. I think you're operating under the assumption that my comment was an attempt to start a dialogue on this, when really I sort of don't care =\

Also gsjfgsjk you're replying faster than my poor old laptop can handle D:

If you didn't want, in one way or another, to open yourself to a conversation upon this, you would not have said anything. That is the way that conversations work. You say something, and leave yourself open for another person to respond, whether you desire their input or not. If you don't care, don't talk.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone always seems to think that caring is a prerequisite to posting on a forum. It's not.

I also didn't NOT want a dialogue to open. I really didn't care.

brb, chili.

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Just for the sake of continuing a conversation in intelligent english, double negatives are not proper grammar.

And if you didn't care you wouldn't have said anything. Respond with a 'don't care' if you want to, but that will only put is in a pointless circle.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Boo hoo.

Again, there's that whole not caring = not posting assumption that is just blatantly false. =\

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
If you didn't care you wouldn't have felt the need to post. That is the way things work. If I didn't care about you treating the OPer unfairly and being a hypocrite, I wouldn't have commented. If you hadn't disagreed with what I said, you wouldn't have responded. See how this works?

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe that's the way things work for you, but it is not for me.

When this conversation trails off, I'm probably going to forget about it. If I see you comment on something in the future that I agree with, I'll probably comment on it myself. I'm going to assume, and correct me if I'm wrong, that this is maybe as argument for you. To me, it's just a conversation.

I have a lot of difficulty empathizing with other people that take the internet more seriously than me, which is as far as I can tell pretty much everyone. It can make me a douche. Sorry, seriously.

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
The internet is serious, it's people that do not realize that who cause problems. It can be as serious as everyday life, which means you need to treat people fairly. And if you do not realize that then you aren't as polite as you would like to claim to be

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
You're right. Really, I should just give up that last shred of belief in humanity before people like this kills it.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I have a lot of difficulty empathizing with other people that take the internet more seriously than me, which is as far as I can tell pretty much everyone.

Meaning, I cannot begin to fathom the existence and mindset of a person who takes LiveJournal seriously. I'm not demeaning them (and by extension you), but I cannot understand them.

The internet causes no problems for me (except that one time I bitched about my boss on my LJ and the company found it, OOPS). The internet, for me, exists in a realm entirely out of my real life. I am cognizant of my difference from you, of course, but again, I just can't empathize.

Rofl though it's ironic that you're the only person I've ever gone out of my way to explain this to.

Just for the sake of continuing a conversation in intelligent english, double negatives are not proper grammar.

Double negatives can be hard to follow, but "not proper grammar?" I don't buy that.

I'm not wanting to get into a non-civil argument, however. :D
