Because they're an interesting group of characters with an interesting assortment of personalities, maybe?

Really? I haven't played the game in a while, but I can't think of one personality trait Luxord has that the game gave him, instead of a personality trait the fandom gave him.

Luxord has a British accent and is a gambler. Game-wise, that's really about it. :|

- Luxord has excellent timing; he is intelligent and able to time his appearance on the ship, when to switch ships, etc.
- Luxord likes to play both sides of the table when possible; he decides to try the heartless against the others because if the heartless wins it's "worthy of serving Organization XIII", and if the cast wins (as they do and as I would suspect he would expect them to, given their past actions), he can collect a big shiny boss heart and use it to help build Kingdom Hearts.
- Luxord likes to play games and play with time; most of his actions aren't to fight or to gamble to win but to stall for time. This makes sense in light of his element.
- Luxord seems to have some history of (mild, obviously) attachment to Roxas, as his reaction to Sora killing him was a horrified and disgusted, "Roxas, how could you".
- Luxord is almost certainly set up by the Organization as a sacrifice, as when there are three of them left, he is set up to die in order to buy time for the Superior to finish building Kingdom Hearts. That he agreed to this is possible, but that he was hoping to not die is also obvious by his reaction when Sora went to kill him (throwing up a barrier, covering his head, etc).
- Luxord shows confidence only until he loses, at which point he panics.
- Luxord plays by the rules. Note that Sora's teammates were taken as the bet before their fight began, and after he died, they were returned.


Those are all off the top of my head, taken directly from his actions/lines in canon, and I haven't even played the game in just about a year. :/ And Luxord is nowhere near one of my favourites. But there is a lot implied in what they say, how they say it, the history they have, etc. I don't give a damn about "goffic bishies" or whatever people have been accusing the fans of liking about them, but I like what I saw in the games and got interested by the possible reasons they say and do what they do.
